Tucker has been spending more time on stamping a holster or belt, than cutting and sewing it. It’s clear that he hasn’t been charging nearly enough for his time and it’s also very hard on his hands and arms.

It’s painstaking, exacting work and the result of 30 years of practice. No apprentice can duplicate it.

On orders accepted on March 15th, 2009 and beyond, Tucker’s price for stamping will more than double. Tucker will continue to do all stamping personally.

HF1 with Full Crosscut Stamp

Full stamp will be $90 on a holster or belt and Border stamp on a holster will be $45. On a complete rig with stamping, the average increase will be approximately $100.

There is some good news. Unstamped orders will get out the door in less than half the time than they have been. Stamped orders will remain around 8-9 months unless the price increase reduces the number of stamped orders (which is expected).

If you are considering placing an order before March 15, to beat the price increase, we will accept a 20% down payment at time of order with balance to be paid upon completion and shipment. (Be sure to use a credit card because Paypal will take the total price immediately.)

NRA Life Memberships are usually $1000. Until March 31st, 2009, you can get one for $300. If you recently renewed, I believe you can upgrade for the difference.

One hitch – you have to be “sponsored” (probably not the right word) by a life member to get it. What that means is, when you  call the NRA Member services you need to have the Life Member number of a buddy to give them.

Call 1-877-NRA-2000 and press #3 for Life Memberships. You may have to wait on hold a couple of minutes.

I just upgraded and I’m now a LIFE MEMBER of the NRA. That feels pretty darn good.

I recently recommended a book called “The Three Laws of Performance” by Steve Zafron and Dave Logan. I’ve been handing out copies to my friends. I’d like to recommend a copy to you.

Why talk about this on a holster-related blog? My customers occur to me as my friends and I want the best for them, for you. I like to share resources as well as rant against what I see that doesn’t work. This book is a resource for a future you didn’t think was possible.

The authors also have a blog and it’s well worth a visit. If you’re wondering how to interact with the current economy you may enjoy reading one of their blog posts entitled, “The Two Recessions.” Check it out and visit frequently. The book and the blog may offer you some access to some personal power you forgot you have.

Tucker’s now making leather holsters for the Ruger LCP. Prototypes have proven to work well and be comfortable.

Is Colt back in the commercial market – selling to folks like us, instead of focusing on the military?

A recent article, “The Curious Case of Colt,” in the new NRA American Rifleman online newsletter, reminds us that Colt is considered by many to be the first name in American firearms. Where’d they go? How did they allow Kimber and Springfield and others to take over most of the 1911 market?

For the last 15 years Colt has been focused on production of the M4 and M4A1 Carbine for the U.S. Army. Now that contract is coming to an end, and Colt is back looking at the Consumer market. Want to see them back?

A recent offering is the Colt Combat Elite, a nice looking pistol, but does it match up with offerings from other makers who’ve stepped into the handgun market with lots of features for the price?
