What’s a Libertarian?

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 5th March 2009

What’s a Libertarian?

There is a Libertarian Party in the United States.  They don’t seem to get elected on any national scale and many people don’t really know what they stand for. The media pretty much ignores them.

Here’s a nice explanation from Sam Wells‘ point of view. I found that I agreed with most of what Libertarians agree with. There’s even a book about Libertarianism, if you’re interested. It’s all about personal freedom and responsibility.

Here are more essays about Libertarianism written by Sam Wells.

Anybody a fan of “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand? It’s a novel that relates very well to current circumstances where it appears that the government is trying to regulate more and more; punishing success.

Atlas Shrugged was first published in 1957. It may be the most influential ever read. I’m reading it again, now. There are 1,667 reviews of it on Amazon.com.

Anyone have something to add?

“The Three Laws of Performance”

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 19th February 2009

If you have a business, lead a business, manage thousands or run a “mom and pop,” this is the book to read this year. I cannot recommend this book highly enough, especially in the trying economic times we’re experiencing now. (Amazon has it in stock for $18.45 in hardback.)

Despite the business title, you can apply this book to any endeavor, any important project or personal dream you have. Don’t wait to read this book. (Yes, you sales pro’s, too.)

“Cracks the code wide open for breakthrough performance. Recounting of specific successes across diverse businesses makes claims undeniable. A must read for next generation managers and leaders.”
Bob Young, Former Group President, Lockheed Corporation

Book: The Three Laws of Performance

Book: The Three Laws of Performance

Although most of us aren’t aware of it, we have a future that’s already been written. Our future is written by hopes, fears, dreams, expectations, and decisions made about life. In the same way, organizations have futures written by history, circumstances, culture, aspirations, successes, and failures. These already-written futures determine and shape the level of performance that’s possible for individuals and organizations.

In The Three Laws of Performance, Steve Zaffron and Dave Logan crack the code on rewriting the future for people and organizations, elevating performance to unprecedented levels.

As Warren Bennis wrote in his editor’s note: “I believe this book may be one of the most important written in many years. The ideas aren’t tips, tools, or steps, but are in fact laws that govern individual, group, and organizational behavior. This book can be a resource for generations to come.”

Positive Questions Make a Difference.

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 18th December 2008

With all that is happening in the world economy and domestic politics, take a moment to keep your mind right every day. No more Mr./Ms. Grumpy.

Not affirmations – afformations. These will make a difference in your outlook.

In a recent workshop we discussed people’s frustration with using affirmations to cause change or improvement in their lives. In most people’s experience the positive impact of affirmations was pretty weak and inconsistent.

Affirmations such as, “It’s always easy for me to get what I want” sometimes result in the little voice in the back of your head saying, “Yeah, right?”

Ask yourself positive questions instead. This works and have made it part of my daily routine.

Ask yourself, “Why is it so easy for me to get what I want?” You may not hear an answer but your subconscious will look within for the answer, and you’ll end up re-wiring your brain.

“Why do I love my life?”

“Why do I take such good care of my health?”

“Why do I so enjoy what I do for a living?”

“Why do I always handle my circumstances with power and grace?”

My experience with postive questions has been very good.

Sure beats the heck out of, “Why am I so screwed up?”

Ask that question and your subconscious will answer that one, too.

No two alike

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 15th December 2008

One of Tucker’s most popular holster decorations is called Crosscut stamping which is done freehand with a swivel knife. Here’s an example of it on Tucker’s HF1 belt holster.

It’s a real work of art and no two holsters are exactly the same – like snowflakes.

Appropriate to the Christmas season and thoughts of a white christmas, I invite you to visit www.snowcrystals.com for an extraordinary experience.

A fresh view of Rush Limbaugh

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 1st December 2008

I’ve been listening to Rush Limbaugh for many years and sometimes I yell at the guy for what he says, but most of the time I find that he’s right on the mark. He doesn’t just pontificate without evidence. He’s always well-informed and backs up what he says. He pokes fun at “pointy-headed intellectuals” but may, in fact, be an intellectual himself.

Fighter Chicks

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 18th July 2008

The days of “Kick the tires, light the fire, first one up’s the leader” are long gone, but all the things it takes to be a fighter pilot remain, except one – mass quantities of excess testosterone.

One great thing about the military aviation community is that performance wins the day and how you look only counts for the squadron photo.

Student Pilots make it through training or they wash out. Few sneak by the unforgiving environment for long. I know what the Naval Aviation Training Command was like when I was a Navy flight instructor - skills and good headwork won the day.

Now women are joining the men in the Navy, Marine Corps (same training background) and the Army and Air Force. 30 years ago the guys scoffed at the possibility. Now it’s a reality. The one thing I’m sure of, these “Fighter Chicks” wouldn’t be strapping on these high performance jet aircraft if they hadn’t proven they have what it takes.

Bravo Zulu to the gals!

Here’s a recent update

I’ll miss Tony Snow.

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 12th July 2008

I always appreciated Tony Snow. He had reasoned arguments for his points of view, always added a dash of humor to his comments and he was always walking on the sunny side of the street. I’m going to miss him.

Thoughts on our election from overseas.

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 22nd April 2008

“We in Denmark cannot figure out why you are even bothering to hold an election.

On one side, you have a bitch who is a lawyer, married to a lawyer, and a lawyer who is married to a bitch who is a lawyer.

On the other side, you have a true war hero married to a woman with a huge chest who owns a beer distributorship.

Is there a contest here?”

P.J. O’Rourke visits the USS Roosevelt

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 19th April 2008

“Landing on an aircraft carrier was the most fun I’d ever had with my trousers on. And the 24 hours that I spent aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt–the “Big Stick”–were an equally unalloyed pleasure. I love big, moving machinery. And machinery doesn’t get any bigger, or more moving, than a U.S.-flagged nuclear-powered aircraft carrier that’s longer than the Empire State Building is tall and possesses four acres of flight deck. This four acres, if it were a nation, would have the fifth or sixth largest air force in the world–86 fixed wing aircraft plus helicopters.”

P.J. O’Rourke is a guy with a gift for reporting serious subjects with a touch of humor. He recently spent 24 hours with the men and women of the USS Roosevelt. As a former Naval Aviator with 2000 hours of jet time and 300 carrier landings, I’m still powerfully drawn to anything regarding these floating “bird farms” as they’re called.

Here’s a link to the story which also says some good things about John McCain in comparison to his dem rivals.

Thanks to the Weekly Standard and Lucianne.com for printing it.
