Thank God I had a Gun…

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 20th April 2009

ABC had a show last week with Diane Sawyer that minimized the value of having a gun when trouble comes through the door.

We’ll here are some real-life stories of people who were glad they add access to a gun.

The book is called, “Thank God I Had a Gun.”

The folks at U.S. Concealed Carry have posted the details on it here.

Two-Day Front Sight handgun training course for $100 (usually $1000)

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 15th April 2009

I have no connection with Front Sight. I just know people who have spoken highly of the training available.

Front Sight is offering a limited time $100 Defensive Handgun Course at their facility if you pay for a certificate by April 20th. This must be your FIRST course with them.

top_rev_logo

Once you have the certificate you can use it any time in the future for the two-day Defensive Handgun Course. It’s a full two days from 7:30 in the morning to 5:30 both days.

Their email offer is too long to post here, and I’m not going to spam my email list with this offer.

I think this is a good deal. If you want more information, they don’t have a link to this offer – only an email I received.

If you want more information, email me at Rob@Tuckergunleather.com, put Front Sight Offer as the subject and I’ll forward the email to you.

If you want this, your check to Front Sight must be postmarked by April 20th, so don’t dawdle, dilly dally or otherwise procrastinate.

Better than a light on your gun?

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 11th April 2009

I get many requests for us to build holsters for guns with lights attached. We make special versions of our Silent Thunder leather-lined holsters for some gun/light combinations, but usually for LEO’s or military use.

There are so many combinations of guns/lights/lasers that we don’t plan to keep up with all of them. In addition, for the average civilian, based on our own training and experience, we see a holstered firearm as a rapid-response, reactive tool. Lights and lasers might slow you down if you have no warning of an armed confrontation.

My training as a Naval Aviator, flight instructor, carrier pilot tells me to keep things simple.

I disagree with carrying a holstered gun with a light attached “just in case” because it complicates rapid response by adding in another decision to be made.

I know, you’re a grown-up and you’re going to do whatever you choose to do, and you have good reasons why you carry what you carry. So, we’ll disagree sometimes.

Here’s a tactical flashlight that has caught my attention. This may be a better choice than mounting a light on the accessory rails of your prized pistol for home defense.

One advantage is that you can illuminate the scene without pointing a loaded firearm at someone who may not be a threat.

Straight talk – don’t you love it?

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 26th March 2009

It’s so great to hear straight talk, especially when it’s well-said. Daniel Hannan, a British Member of Parliament, tells Prime Minister of the UK, Gordon Brown how the cow ate the cabbage. Watch this video and watch for Daniel Hannan in the future.

You don’t have to agree with everything Hannan says to appreciate his willingness to say how it is.

Feds Deny End to Pilot Gun Program

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 21st March 2009

Thanks to Dave, one of our regular readers, we have an update to the story that Obama wants to end the Airline Pilot Gun Program. Officials say, “No, no, no there are no plans to curtail the program.”

Update here.

That’s a good thing. Unfortunately, we learn that Concealed Carry in National Parks has been suspended. Here are the details on that.

The NRA is filing an appeal.

Citizens have rights, governments don’t.

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 10th March 2009

John Longenecker (no relationship to me) has been writing intelligently on gun issues for many years.

He brings up a great point in responding to a NY Times article about the Washington, D.C. push to give residents a vote in the House of Representatives.

The NY Times blames the gun lobby for delays and says that the measure “has run afoul of the gun lobby that is determined to deny Washington another fundamental right to regulate firearms.”

John wisely points out that “citizens have rights, governments do not.” We should remember that and remind our representatives.

I recommend John’s article here.

Remember Milton Friedman?

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 8th March 2009

30 years ago Milton Friedman gave a great explanation to Phil Donahue on why Capitalism and free trade create more well-being for people than bureaucratic re-distribution and state-managed economies. You might enjoy Milton Friedman and Phil Donahue – 1979.

Beating a bad economy from home…

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 6th March 2009

The bad economy may be just the thing to cause you to go to the next iteration of your life.

Many people have always wanted to start their own small business from home, but couldn’t bring themselves to leave a guaranteed income.  Many successful small business people look back on getting fired/laid off/downsized as the best thing that ever happened to them.

Why? Because they started their own business.

Here’s a great article on “beating a bad economy from home” which may give some of you just the incentive you need to jump off the cliff and grow your wings on the way down.

Is it your turn? Good luck.

(Thanks for the link, Walter.)
