Our Incredibly Stupid Gun Laws

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 28th December 2012

David Gregory intended to demonstrate on “Meet The Press” what he regards as the absurdity of America’s lax gun laws. Instead, he’s demonstrating the ever-greater absurdity of America’s non-lax laws.

On air from his Washington, DC studio, he held up a 30-round magazine for an AR-15 while interviewing Wayne LaPierre of the NRA.  The magazine is illegal in DC. David knew it – he even checked ahead of time with the DC PD.

Article Tab: This video frame-grab image provided byMeet the Press shows host David Gregory holding what he described as a high-capacity ammunition magazine during the Dec. 23 program. Washington police said they were investigating the incident.

He figured, “but I’m not going to do any harm with it, so ….”  Well, the law applies regardless of intent.  I highly recommend Mark Steyn’s account of this event and the far reaching impact.

I think you’ll want to pass this on to your friends.

SENATE TO GO FOR GUNS

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 27th December 2012

Diane Feinstein and fellow travelers n the Senate are about to submit new legislation that:

  • Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:
    • 120 specifically-named firearms
    • Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one military characteristic
    • Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds
  • Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by:
    • Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test
    • Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test
    • Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans
  • Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
  • Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by:
    • Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment
    • Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes and
    • Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons
  • Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:
    • Background check of owner and any transferee;
    • Type and serial number of the firearm;
    • Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
    • Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
    • Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration.

    As Bush 41 used to say, “Nah gonna happen!” You can expect aspects of this bill to pass the Senate, but not the House of Representatives.

Limiting beliefs
+++++++++++++++++++

Have you become addicted to limiting beliefs? Do those limiting beliefs soothe you and comfort you while at the same time holding you back?

In the short term, it can be much easier to tell yourself you can’t do it. Yet when you look at the big picture, it’s much better to go ahead and do the work of achievement.

You can comfort yourself today by believing that your lack of progress is not your responsibility. However, you’ll soon be paying for that short-term comfort with long-term regret.

It is difficult work to acknowledge and follow the best of your possibilities. And it is well worth the effort.

For your dreams are calling to you, and they’ll never be satisfied until you do something about them. You have what it takes to reach them, and they know it.

Break free of your dependence on limiting beliefs. And achieve the great things that only you can bring to life.

Gals buying guns in Chicagoland.

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 28th October 2009

Women are buying more guns in Chicago in reaction to a downturn in the economy and an upturn in crime.

More good news – many are looking for professional training. Tucker and I used to have a shooting school in the 1980’s and 75% of our students were women.

They were good students because accepted training and wanted to be better. Most of the guys “knew how to shoot.” (Wanna bet on that?)

One thing we noticed for sure – a woman will shoot you in a heartbeat if she’s threatened – especially if her kids are threatened. Like a mama grizzly bear.

Check out the story here.

What’s the best gun for a woman’s first gun? Any opinions? Stories? We’d like to know.

Double Tap – Good Video

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 7th September 2009

I don’t know who the guy is who made this video, but I think his explanation of a double tap is worth viewing.

People sometimes think a double tap is one sight picture and then releasing two shots as fast as possible, hoping the second shot will hit the target. See if you like his explanation and demonstration better.

Double Tap Video.

Any comments?

If you were the sniper, would you want the islamic world to know who you are and where your family lives?

Not me.

Thomas Sowell puts health care debate in perspective.

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 3rd July 2009

I always enjoy Thomas Sowell’s columns. He’s clear-headed, thoughtful and articulate.

Here’s his take on the “health care crisis.”

His article is called “Alice in Medical Care.”

Health Care proposals put in perspective

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 7th June 2009

This video is the best I’ve seen to put today’s health care debate into perspective. It’s just great.

Take a few minutes to watch Health Care video.  (Has short commercial before the video.)

This will be one of the most important debates we’ll ever have and you can’t depend on the government to tell it straight.

Carbonite works

Posted by Rob Longenecker on 28th May 2009

My primary desktop computer has been down for a few days.

I had to wipe my hard drive and reinstall Windows, losing most of my data files in the process. I’d backed up the Quickbooks files and key Tucker files, but a lot more was missing.

The “computer guru” to whom I took the computer, “cloned my hard drive” to another hard drive before wiping out my C Drive, but most of the cloned files are corrupted.

Thanks to having Carbonite online backup, I’ve been able to restore those data files .  For $49/year that’s a great investment.

One other benefit is that you can remotely access you backed up files from any computer when you’re traveling.
