Chicago crime rate drops as concealed carry applications surge

Posted by Rob Longenecker on August 25th, 2014

Yep! It’s true!  People carrying pistols might shoot. (Don’t leave your gun at home because you have an uncomfortable holster.  Visit Tucker Gunleather.)

Crime is going down in Illinois. Since Illinois started granting concealed carry permits this year, the number of robberies that have led to arrests in Chicago has declined 20 percent from last year, according to police department statistics.

On Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, Illinois residents for the first time can apply for permits to carry concealed weapons. For now, they can apply only online through the Illinois State Police website. Six months ago Illinois became the last state in the nation to approve a law allowing the public possession of a concealed firearm. (AP Photo/Seth Perlman, File)
