Got a Taser? Don’t need a real gun anymore?

Posted by Rob Longenecker on September 20th, 2009

“Another Taser Failure: …Police gave this account: Around 12:30 p.m. officers were called to an apartment complex near 19th and Glendale avenues, after residents reported an argument with their 32-year-old neighbor who was angry and had stabbed their door with a butcher knife. She then returned to her apartment. Officers went to the apartment door of the woman. She wouldn’t come out. Instead, she told officers she was going to turn on the gas in her apartment. A few minutes later officers smelled gas and called the Special Assignment Unit. An SAU officer tried to negotiate with the woman to open the door. She refused. Officers forced entry into the apartment, and the woman started throwing bottles at the officers. Officers again tried negotiating with the woman. She refused. They tried using a Taser on the woman. Nothing worked. Officers tried shooting her with a sage gun, which shoots plastic dowels. As the officer shot the sage gun, the woman stabbed him in the shoulder. The knife caught his ballistic vest, and he was uninjured. That’s when another officer shot the woman twice. She died at the scene… (Be wary of anyone who suggests that you don’t really need a firearm.)”  Thanks to Stephen P. Wengerhttp://www.spw-duf.info

  1. Gordon Mann Says:

The people that insist we do not need a side arm to deal with highly agitated people have never seen in person what such individuals are capable of,let alone have ever been on the receiving end of such irrational rage. it is a hard thing to have to take a life but these moments do indeed happen. I would bet that this is a lesson the officer whom was stabbed ( luckily uninjured ) has taken away from this incident, thank God the officers all went home to their families.
