Sweatshield is really……….
Posted by Rob Longenecker on January 18th, 2007
Tucker offers a “sweatshield” on his holsters for semi-auto pistols, but some potential customers have never heard the term before and don’t know what it is.
Some people think it’s a layer of waterproof material sandwiched into the leather but it is really a “body shield.” It acts as a spacer between the back of the slide and your body for added comfort and it only applies to holsters for semi-auto’s, not revolvers.
Here’s a picture of a Tucker’s pancake holster, looking at the backside to show the sweatshield clearly. You’ll notice it does not cover the hammer or the beavertail, just the back of the slide and the thumb safety. (Note: Tucker makes the backside of his pancake in roughout leather to help keep the holster from moving while worn.)
Some customers want Tucker to make an enlarged sweatshield covering the beavertail and hammer, too, but that would interfere with a full-firing grip.
The sweatshield does not prevent you getting the proper grip, but it could feel different if you’re not used to having one. The sweatshield is standard on some holsters and optional on others. If you have a question about it just give me a call.
