It Really Is The “Answer”

Posted by Rob Longenecker on June 12th, 2006

A number of you have been wanting to know how the Answer holster got its name.

It started one day when Tucker and I were kicking around some ideas, talking to some customers and we asked the question, “How could we make the ultimate IWB holster?”

Because we knew all the current designs seemed to leave something out that people wanted.

They left out things like stability or comfort or speed. Very few allowed you to tuck your shirt over the rig when it was too hot to wear a jacket (or when the fashion police frown on just hangin’ your shirttail out to cover your gun.)

Folks told us it had to be fast, stable, comfortable enough for all-day carry, completely concealable and easy to reholster. They wanted it to be virtually indestructible and tuckable too.

We know about “hot” in Houston and that means no coats, vests or jackets if you want to stay cool.

People wanted to tuck their shirt into their pants over the top of their holster and have the whole rig disappear. We saw a big possibility for a breakthrough: a holster that had it all.

Working with our friends at Comp-tac, who make fine Kydex holsters, Tucker came up with a leather/kydex hybrid that has the best of both worlds. It’s “comfortable Kydex” to coin a phrase.  (Sometimes people complain that regular Kydex holsters are so hard they poke them in the wrong places.)

The new design was also adjustable, fast and very concealable. In fact, it had everything but a name. So, I decided to let the folks on the gun forums (many of whom are our best customers and dedicated fans) pick the name and win one of the very first hybrid holsters.

A win-win for everyone, right? And boy, did they come through for me!

The response was terrific but some of the names were a little odd – like “tool shed.”

Ok, I get it, sort of. A gun is a tool, but . . .

So, after a few days the deadline for the “Name The Holster” contest came and we picked the winner. A very smart contributor had noted that the problem with most IWB’s was how to put all the desirable features in one holster design with nothing important left out, and he declared that our holster was the “Answer.”

It was the Answer to the problem, maybe an Answer to a prayer. So, if you’re looking for comfort, concealability and tuckability when you need it, we’ve got the Answer: The Tucker Answer IWB.
